Volpone Blueblood - Gilbear by jeenhoong Volpone Blueblood - Gilbear by jeenhoong
gaunt's ghost stuff, volpone blueblood colonel Gilbear.
their regiment, the Royal Volpone 50th, is considered as the most noble regiment on this side of the Imperium and so much more crap. Gilbear, like so many bastards of the Volpone, are aristocratic soldiers and they are too proud for their own good, but nonetheless, they can fight like deamons.
Designing him is not tough, just imagine any good fascist and you will get the look.
the hellgun is another thing. I have reference on the cadian kasrkin's but found it too rugged. So a more elegant breech and longer barrel would be good. And according to Abnett's books, the volpone have underslung grenade launcher fitted beneath the barrel, so it is also there. Using a mag filled with grenade rounds, the launcher is fired from the main trigger (possible to switch between lasbolts and grenade) with the front grip acting to cycle the grenade rounds, shotgun style.
Abnett also mentioned that they are heavy troops, which means segmented armour and helmets. The balaclava is for fighting in smoke-choke area.
Well, Gilbear is never a funny person but the scene that he was in is always funny. My favourite part is in the book Necropolis, where he and Gaunt's mission team was inside Asphodel's command center and the Zoicans are closing on them fast, 28 days later style. Gaunt decided to trust his scout Mkoll to pinpoint the target to the side of the structure but Gilbear insisted that they hit the middle instead. Gaunt argue that if he was proven wrong he will owe Gilbear a crate of wine, with Gilbear choosing the vintage at his liberty. But Gilbear pointed out that if Gaunt is wrong, they will all be dead. Gaunt simply replied him "Why the feth you think i bet?!" I swore I laughed till my side hurts.
And he have a hell of a long name.

My last name is Volpone :), I love the Guant's Ghost series and Necropolis was a favorite of mine, its cool tha Dan Abnett had come up with a Regiment and named it after the Italian word for "Big Fox"

I love it, but the helmet looks like the one one of our fighter pilots would wear, not a 40th century imperial storm trooper.

Nice piece though and I love Gilbear, so bad no one ever draws Volponian troops
and Gilbear in particular.

Very nicely done, my only critique would be that the Hellgun looks more like a Tau Pulse rifle than an Imperial weapon...

Well, for someone who's over two metres tall, Gilbear was a very suitable rival in First and Only and Necropolis. I can't help but remember one line in the book that had something to do with how the Volpone were being fed at home to attain such a build!

That can probably explain why his so disgruntled by the Ghosts. Hard to tell if they're failed space marines or if they just take anabolic steroids, along with the bricks and mortar!

That would depend on the context you refer to as Spartans. I guess in this case you're referring to the SPARTANs from Halo, but I could be mistaken (the Spartan hoplites featured in 300 were just as lethal). Spartans in either case don't strike me as the type of soldier that would be 2.5 metres tall with aristocratic backgrounds.

I play a Patrician army. And I thought they were just fairly badass, with their charging purple infantry, blasting the alto credo at the top of their lungs.

Awesome picture. I grew to like Gilbear in Necropolis, but thought he was a grade-a ass in Ghostmaker. But then, my favorite guard regiment is the Jantine Patricians, so I shouldn't be talking about arrogant bastards.

I like it, only two things: I always envisioned Gilbear with a beard. Probably the fact that he has "bear" in his name, and that makes me think of a russian cossack picture I saw a while ago, and they had beards. And the barrel before the grenade clip is just too long, in my unprofessional oppinion. *shrugs. Doesn't take much away from it, though, and this is another reason I really wish I cold actually draw.

LOl! nice but that uses the revolver system, which is rather big and impossible to become underslung launcher cause of the crazy weight at the front. heheh^^

I love the carapace armour. This is pretty much how i imagined the volpone, not to mention Gilbear. my only critisism is the greenade launcher's mag is kinda petite, could be because i imagined your general pop a grenade in and fire sorta grenade launcer. I must say, however your shading is rather nice, good work.

at first i thought of the OICW grenade launcher, they use the mag too, but well... yup, it is too petite, heh.

but this was the crazy system he uzed in the movie thought, well he is chuck norris afterall, but still could imagine the revolver launcher under the hellgun. while i read about volpones i think that the launcher is more like m203 for some reason...

well, although Abnett mentioned that they keep pumping and shooting crap into the hive master chamber, so that should at least hint a mag system coz the m203 is 1 shot, reload style.

This one took 10 hours, with lots of slacking moments in between.
