The character is a unique one. even the name. Abnett had explored on him most specifically on the first book - First and Only. He is a charismatic leader who is fighting a losing war against the high brass and the leaders who want him dead for fearing of his skills and popularity.

on arts, A. Smith had captured the person to be one fierce son of a gun.

Langley, on the other hand, draws him as a moody, menacing monolith. Like a unsheathed bayonet in the dark.

I sees him as a heart-wrecked person. Surely, this is the 40k, people dies everyday in the millions. But war is not pretty. We know that in the modern age. WW1 - depression, WW2 - hell, Vietnam - ugly, Middle East - shit. And someone like Gaunt who have to burden the deaths of his men and those that he lost, how can he be relaxed and heroic while the ghosts of his men followed him and haunting him. Sure, he is a rare beast. But he is also a human. There is always the emotion card.

We sees in the movie like Windtalkers, the marine Enders is a crazy fethed up hero who is haunted by his friends' ghosts and goes into battle in hope that he died there so as to exorsice the ghosts.

In game, Brothers in Arms, Matt Baker lead his men to hell and almost half his men ended up dead. How does he feel? Heroic? feth, no.

war is war, it will always be the ugly trait of mankind. And Gaunt will always have these burden, crushing him down.

Me being as the Rommel of the east in Strategic Command has failed miserably. Obviously the AI is too damn sneaky than me.
