Ambush by jeenhoong Ambush by jeenhoong
Another illustration bound for the "codex" that i am currently developing. It is about my new death world regiment called the False Hope Phantoms.

the most decisive victory a Phantom regiment had ever achieved so far is the total annihilation of a Tau Hunter cadre led by a commander Windspear on the feral jungles of Gad's World, eastern fringe by the False Hope Phantom II.

this shows a cunning ambush done by one of a Phantom platoon in some hellhole choke point inside the continent spanning jungles of Gad's World. A Tau squad walked into a meat grinder and none of them could see another sunrise.

die, xeno filth, die! It is mankind that will rule the galaxy!

PS: ok, guys. the Tau who is dead at the forefront... the one who lies dead slump on the stones and all with his right arm over the rocks... if you notice.. there is 4 Tau alphabets on his right shoulder pad. There is a hidden meaning to it. :P check out the Tau codex... and thumbs up for whoever that finds out the meaning ^^

why are Tau charging them rather than fighting from a distance

they have Kroot, Vespid, and human Auxillaries to do the charging crap

It's an ambush. What part of it don't you understand. Of course, if I were a commander, I would like to be in the thickest armor possible to escape firepower. But then, all of a sudden, someone walked into my quarter and finish me off with a single bullet. The element of surprise can ruin even the most credible plan.

"Shazam, brave warriors! Our armor has been transformed into cardboard! "

As a Tau player I'm trying not to be offended, but hey, it's just a game, right? :thanks:

Nice artwork though, great explosions, armor and scenery in particular.

For me to believe that your fan-made regiment isn't fanboyish, I'm going to ask for more detail on this ambush. The complete elimination of a Tau Cadre is... rather difficult for me to swallow.

You would first have to get past the technological advances. Tau Pathfinders and drones scouting out ahead of the cadre, and that's not easy to get around. Tau cadres are attackers. They don't roam around looking for enemies. Their movement is purposeful towards a specific area where the enemy army is known to be so they can work on destroying resistance. So you'd have to have really, really good bait laid out (in the form of an entire regiment, group of tanks, or something strategically important to hold up the planetary's forces).

Once you get the Tau going to where you want them to go, and miraculously bypass their scanning, possible air support sweeps, and Pathfinder team scouting, you'd have to fast, EXTREMELY FAST, killing them all while they are caught off guard and without air support (or before air support could be administered). That only takes excessive speed, but excessive firepower, because the moment an ambush occurs that they can't deal with, or plans don't go well, Tau will immediately withdraw, possibly through areal extraction.

Catachans are of the greatest jungle/forest warriors the Imperium has to offer, with legendary fighting skills of their own. And these guys were systematically defeated by the Tau during the Cytherian Annexation.

What interests me more is how they would get around executing such an attack with technology that is sub-par Imperial Guard standard issue. Boltguns are .75 magnum explosive rounds that can be shrugged off and repelled by the Fire Warrior's standard-issue armor. And you're telling me that they used ammunition possibly half the size of Boltgun ammunition? And managed to kill all the Fire Warriors, Battlesuits, transports, heavy vehicles, skimmers, and assisting teams with it?

Artistically, I like the picture. Some artists have complained about perspective here, but I don't see the problem; it's just a different style of art, and its hard to pull off.

Dude just enjoy the artwork, plus the universe of 40K has loads of loopholes in the fluff!

There are places loopholes can be generally accepted, usually timeline related. This bit of writing just shows off a serious lack of knowledge and fanboyism. It's on the same lines of a Space Marine falling in love with an Eldar. This is a good example of a Mary Sue faction.
